F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is a first-person shooting game with an emphasis on psychological horror. The game was released in 2009 and received generally positive reviews from critics. The story centers around events that occurred in the first F.E.A.R. game. The player assumes the role of Michael Beckett, a member of an elite task force assigned to uncover elements of paranormal occurrences that occurred in the last game.

F.E.A.R. 2's game play is generally the same as in the original F.E.A.R. game, but it is enhanced in several different ways. The general game play involves exploring areas like streets and office buildings to advance the game's plot. The player equips a few different guns that are unique renditions of real-life tactical firearms. The weapons list includes pistols, tactical rifles, lasers, and grenades. This game allows the player the additional ability to manually aim down the weapon's sights by pressing a button to take more precise shots at a distance. It is very similar to the shooting mechanics used in popular games like Call of Duty.

F.E.A.R. 2 is known for having very intelligent enemy artificial intelligence that can respond to the player's actions. Enemies throw precise grenades, kick tables over for cover, and flank the player by attacking from different sides of a room. The enemies in this game include both soldiers and paranormal creatures. Many of the most challenging enemies aren't unlocked until the player reaches the last areas of the game.

This game also features an online multi-player mode that is separate from the single-player campaign. The different game modes include both tactical and death-match style game play. Players can jump in and out of online multi-player games quickly. The multi-player aspect of F.E.A.R. 2 is reasonably active in 2014.

The graphics in F.E.A.R. 2 look very good. The game uses a large number of different visual tricks to toy with the player's mind as he advances through the story mode. Those who have a solid graphics card will find that the game looks very good when the settings are maximized. The music and voice acting are also top notch. The game's videos are rendered within the game's engine. This makes the transition between the story and game play feel seamless. F.E.A.R. 2 is an excellent entry into the F.E.A.R. series. Players who enjoy this game should check out the other F.E.A.R. games as well.
